“A lifetime of friendship, then romance. Will I marry him? Heck yes!”
– Bianca's FB status, 6th June 2010
We first started making pinwheels as gifts for our wedding. They encompassed everything we love; nostalgia, playfulness, simplicity and a sense of innocence mixed with abandon. We would sit up late at night with cups of tea – Chevy armed with a glue gun and me sitting cross-legged on the dining room table – cutting, sawing and sticking together our colorful creations. As we did this we would dream about our future together. One dream was particularly exciting. “You know we can probably sell these,” Chevy said one night and my heart gave a little skip of excitement.
Before we knew it we were married! Mr and Mrs Smith– wow! It was a wonderful summer-fresh, sun-shining, flowers-blooming, laughter-filled, joyful day and we loved sharing it with the people who are close to us. Plus the pinwheels were a hit. We were amazed by the delighted response that adults had to a vintage children's toy. They blew them, ran around with them and even took them home to use as decorations!
Since then we have moved to Cape Town to continue our studies and our dreams have come with us. I'm studying media and like bringing beauty to the world. Chevy is studying sustainable development and wants to save the world. Our pinwheels fit into this perfectly, charming and stylish, they are naturally powered by the wind and encourage a more environmentally friendly form of entertainment – playtime doesn't always need batteries!
We don't know what the future holds, there will be good and bad times but we are enjoying the element of adventure that uncertainty adds. Life is always turning, always moving on and this is just the beginning. Hopscotch is a part of our story, it is our baby before we have kids and we want to share it with you...we hope you like it!
